Why This Hospital, Why Now

In rural North Bihar, pregnancy can become a life-threatening emergency, especially when women must travel far, pay high private fees, or face delays during floods. Too many families reach care late, or not at all.

This hospital is being built so women can deliver safely, babies can survive the first critical hours, and families aren't pushed into debt just to access basic care.

Bihar MMR ~118 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births
Women’s anemia ~60%+ in the project districts
Stunting up to ~57% in Sitamarhi
≥4 ANC visits only ~20–28% (risk not detected early)
Institutional births ~64–73% (home births remain high)
Public C-section capacity is low (surgical care not accessible)

What Causes Preventable Deaths? The 3 Delays

1. Delay in Deciding to Seek Care

Costs, social barriers, misinformation, and low decision-making power.

Distance, transport gaps, floods, and poor connectivity.

3. Delay in Receiving Quality Care

Staff shortages, limited OT/C-section readiness, and weak newborn care.

This hospital is designed to reduce all three delays by bringing skilled, equipped, round-the-clock care closer to families.
